Fernando Arias holds a Higher Degree in Classical Percussion from the
Conservatorio Superior de Música del Principado de Asturias and the Conservatoire
de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he completed his training at some of
Europe’s most prestigious institutions.
For three years, he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO),
touring internationally in the world’s leading concert halls and working with some of
the most renowned conductors of our time, including Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta,
Sir Colin Davis, among others. This period played a decisive role in shaping his
artistic development and international outlook.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with the vast majority of Spanish
symphony orchestras, as well as with several international ensembles, maintaining an intense activity in both the symphonic repertoire and contemporary music.
From 1999 to 2020, Fernando Arias served as Principal Timpanist of Oviedo
Filarmonía, participating in numerous symphonic seasons, operatic productions, and
recording projects. He later became Guest Principal Timpanist of the Malta
Philharmonic Orchestra, further expanding his international orchestral career.
Strongly committed to contemporary creation, Fernando Arias has premiered several
concertos for percussion and orchestra, working closely with living composers.
In addition, he has performed as a soloist and made recordings for the NAXOS label.
At present, while still maintaining ties with performance, he focuses primarily on
music production and recording. He is the founder and director of the label ARIA
classics and is among the most active producers collaborating with major
international labels such as Warner Classics and Sony Classical.
