
Anna Theegarten was born 1979 in Riga, Latvia into a Russian family and moved to Germany in 1995. After graduating from high school in Hamburg Anna initially studied violin with Sebastian Hamann at the University of Music Lübeck. In the spring of 2002 she switched to viola and began her studies with Tabea Zimmermann at the „Hanns Eisler“ School of Music in Berlin. She gained her orchestral experience during her studies in Berlin with scholarships at the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. From 2005 to 2007 she was a student at the Karajan-Akademie of the Berlin Philharmonic. Her following engagements as principal violist of the Bamberg Symphony and assistant principal violist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra rounded off her orchestral career.
Since August 2011 she is a member of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg. Anna Theegarten is an enthusiastic chamber musician and has been a regular guest at festivals such as Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus and Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Her chamber music partners included such renown musicians as Gidon Kremer, Joshua Bell, Francesco Piemontesi, Daniel Hope and many others. Solo performances of Bartok viola concerto and Hindemiths „Schwanendreher“ with orchestra enrich her stage experience.
